Have you ever been to a rat show? Well, each day we go to a rat show. There’s Tom and Harry running up and down in the roof, screaming at each other over and over again. Our class, itself, is the rats’ toilet. The walls are stained with rat droppings and if that’s not bad enough, they also serve as a canvas for the Michaelangelos of the new millennium. These “artists” find it necessary to leave their, not so pleasant, mark on our classroom. We guess they figure they are making our pale-coloured walls more visually appealing.
As for the windows, they are bent up, rusted and guess what? Some are even missing! The floor...what can we say about the floor? It’s dusty, dirty and just so hard to look at because it makes you want to cry. It makes us feel as if we’re sitting in poverty. Don’t talk about the fans! The blades are so shaky that when the fan is on, they look like missiles on the verge of being launched. On hot days, we turn on the fans and just pray that at the end of the period we’ll all leave with our heads intact.
Now we all know that bookshelves are made and given that name because they are for placing books in, but books are not the only things found in our bookshelves. The rats take pleasure in leaving their dropping in, on and between our books on the shelves. So, how then are we supposed to truly appreciate that READING IS FUN? To top things off, the bookshelves are also old and falling apart. The cupboards are no different. They are dilapidated and the mosquitoes have gone ahead, without permission, and made them their home.
Honestly, there is so much to say about our classroom but here’s one sentence that really sums it up-Our classroom sucks! Each day we have to come to class in sit in the disturbing, unwelcoming environment and try to learn in order to have successful futures. Tell me though, what futures will we have if we are constantly exposed to this health hazard? A clean, cheerful room makes learning easier, and with all the difficulties we face (I know some of you are saying, “Please, what difficulties?”), we need learning to be as fun and interesting as possible.
We believe that we have a right to be taught in an environment that is conducive to learning. We usually try with our teacher, Miss John, to improve our surroundings but our resources are VERY limited. Speaking about our teacher, she is a wonderful, energetic teacher. She is special to us and we think that she deserves a classroom that suits her personality.
So, if by now you’re not convinced that we need a classroom makeover, here’s one more thing for you to consider-We are the future doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, judges and much more. Don’t you think we deserve a classroom that will stimulate our intellectual appetites and ardent desires to learn, rather than one that epitomizes a rat hole?
